There’s a place on the edge of Inis Mór where the island folds into the Atlantic, a long, clean cut pool hidden beneath the cliffs near Dún Aonghasa. Locals call it Poll na bPéist, the Wormhole.
You’ll hear stories about it in the pubs, usually after a pint or two, some true, some only half true but anyone who’s walked the stone out to its edge knows it carries its own kind of silence.
Freediving here isn’t about records or chasing depth.
It’s about slipping into a place shaped by time, tide and the stubborn limestone of the Aran Islands.
Cold water boosts circulation, enhancing blood flow and oxygen delivery, which can improve cardiovascular health and stamina.
Cold conditions force you to master breath control, increasing lung capacity and diaphragmatic breathing for better performance.
The cold environment helps improve focus, calmness, and mental resilience, keeping you present and relaxed even in challenging conditions.
Cold water triggers adrenaline and endorphins, providing a natural "high" that boosts mood and mental well-being.
Regular cold-water exposure helps boost your immune system, stimulating white blood cell production for better overall health.
Cold water offers clearer visibility and access to unique marine life, providing an unmatched peaceful and rewarding dive.
Got a question? We’ve got answers
No. The Wormhole is only for experienced and certified freedivers who are confident in natural ocean conditions.
Yes, but keep in mind that most of our gear is designed for scuba diving. However, we also use it during freediving daily trips or Wormhole trip.
The Wormhole itself and also you’ll explore kelp forests, stunning small canyons and swim-throughs, vertical walls, and incredible rock formations.
It's ok if it is light. However, it is not the best time to freedive if you have a heavy runny nose or cold. This can make equalizing difficult and painful.
If conditions turn unsafe, we postpone, adjust the plan, or choose another suitable spot.
Yes, the water is cold, however, you will have the appropriate gear to keep you warm.
Yes, but it is best to keep your stomach light before sessions to preserve oxygen when diving. Something light like fruit or granola with yoghurt is recommended.
Similar to coffee, tea or high-sugar drinks, try to refrain from them as they raise your heart rate. DO drink plenty of water before and after the dives to keep hydrated!
